More on Maryland Archives

I spent some time yesterday evening researching the Maryland Archives, looking for any of my four research surnames. There were indeed Brannons - James, John, Joseph and Timothy. Whether any of these is my ancestor remains to be seen.
Today, I take a different tack. Googling "West Virginia" and "Thomas P. Brannan" (my direct ancestor) turned up a copy of Hardesty's Calhoun County History, and it is FULL of Brannans. Interestingly, most of the surnames are spelled with 'a' rather than 'o.'
Most significant is the declaration by Hardesty that Thomas P. and William A. Brannan were among the county's earliest settlers. Sadly, Hardesty does not shed any light on where they came from or who were their parents.
Anyway, the History is delightful reading. You can find it here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvcalhou/hardhis.htm.
Also, I have just found an entry in LDS for William (also known as 'Wrighter') Brannon and wife Mary Paine, parents of Thomas P. among known others. I'm determined to find out who were THIS William's parents. Plugging on . . .
